Yesterday was a pants day... wind was just starting to fill in, but not really enough. I watched a few desperate guys trying - and generally failing - to keep their kites in the air. I remembered how boring Tarifa can be if there´s no wind.

But today - whoa! Levante arrived with force.

First new change at Tarifa I noticed was a guy who looks after all the cars at Punta Paloma in exchange for a parking fee of 1 euro. It´s all licenced by the town council and a dam good idea.

I walked my 11m out to the beach, but at the water´s edge it was blowing a hooley, and chatting to a local he persuaded me to use my 8m instead. Wise man. I got blown all over the place as it was REALLY gusty, and I didn´t really manage to get up on the board.

Got in quite a few messes and tangles though, nothing too serious. I´d been watching my Fluid Edge DVD the night before, but they don´t mention what to do when your kite has flipped backwards and now your inside lines are trapping the the outside lines. Spent a lot of time downwind winding my lines in then walking it all back upwind.

Another major change I´ve noticed with Tarifa - or maybe it´s just me - is that everyone seems a damn sight friendlier than before. Perhaps it´s coz kiting has taken off (boom boom) and everyone´s looking out for each other. And I noticed a kind-hearted windsurfer towing in a kiter who´d got into trouble. But it was great to be flailing among the reassurance of having so many good people about.

A pretty good day really, but a little frustrating.
